My first journey to Darasuram Temple- Part 2
Let's take a walk towards Main Mandapa (Raja Gambira Mandapa), which carries an extraordinary architecture model of elephant draws the chariot at one end whereas in the other end, Horse carries the chariot.
Take a look at the Elephant statue, you may feel wondered. Why? This is the reason, because it is not made, of one stone. 14 different rocks connected in this great structure. The reason why it is exactly made of 14 rocks is not known to me. Do not miss to watch two small one handed statues on either side of the entrance steps to mandapa. You may think, it is damaged. No it is not, it manages to designed in the way like that. They are mirror images of each other.
Have you counted the partitions? Yes, it is. On the other side, we have a beautiful Horse and a wheel that too not made of single rock. But the similarity here is, they carry a similar partition of 6.
Now look at 8 pillars, where we can see 8 yallis which are positioned in 8 different directions. Isn't that interesting?
One interesting sculptures I missed, look at the 5 different gods here. They indicate 5 prime elements and they carry different objects that implies what they belong to.
The pillars have different stories inscribed everywhere. If you have an idea about Hindu Mythology, you may get an idea for this. Sorry I could not get any of these!!! In ceilings, we have an interesting small carvings of krishna, siva and parvathi. Do not forget to enjoy the pillars and ceilings.
My journey about interesting outer sculptures continues in the next part.
